Spending money in a hyper-local way helps not only your immediate community, but your city as a whole. However, spoiler alert, the search for a second brick and mortar location has begun! Now that they had a storefront, they decided to reassess their business and pivot away from the wholesale side of the business. It took some time but after two years Batter & Crumbs opened their doors in July, 2019, at 1401 Reed Street in South Philly. Now that both Paul and John were all in, John doing all the baking and Paul working on the growth, the decision was made to find a storefront for a bakery and coffee shop. As the business continued to increase, Paul decided it was time to focus on growing the business full time. For those handful of years it was wholesale accounts and custom orders that kept the business thriving. In 2014, Batter and Crumbs was officially formed.įor five years, the baking was done in a commercial kitchen. Well, turns out, not only was he a talented baker, but the demand was there. John was getting pretty good and once he had perfected a few recipes, he decided it was time to see if any local coffee shops and restaurants would be interested in carrying his baked goods. Well, John let his creative juices take over and decided to attend You-Tube-University and started doing baking in-between his acting roles. At that point, though vegan food was becoming more prevalent on restaurant menus, desserts were still difficult to find. They watched the movie Food, Inc and decided to “go vegan”. In 2008 Paul and John made a life changing decision that would soon lead them into the small business world. After graduating, John was heavily involved in acting and spent a lot of his time traveling to Italy to perform. John graduated from Eastern University in 2010. Before opening Batter & Crumbs, Paul was the Director of Hospitality Services at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia for over 26 years. They met each other in 2006 and married in 2017.
